Section 79. Telšiai – Buožėnai.

Germantas landscape reserve was founded in 1960 as one of the first protected nature areas of its kind in Lithuania. It aims to preserve the characteristic landscapes of the Middle Žemaitija Upland with lakes, forests, streams and bogs. The territory of the reserve includes Džiuginėnai, Pagermantė, Lieplaukė forests, as well as Germantas, Ilgis, Varlakaušis and Durbinas I and II state lakes. The largest of these is Germantas lake (165 ha). The reserve is home to many species of birds, plants, fungi and lichens protected in Lithuania and Europe. Equipped with marked educational trails and cycling routes, rest areas and bathing areas. The trails of the reserve connect Germantas and Ilgis lakes (a total of 12.4 km of educational and bicycle paths have been installed in the territory).
