Gravel quarries can be seen in this section of the Forest Trail. Gravel is a loose or coarse-grained sediment formed in rock abrasion process. The presence of gravel is associated with the glacier, which during the Ice Age, moving through the present territory of Latvia, crushed its own stones and rocks. Gravel is one of the most important minerals in Latvia. It is used in road construction, building and concrete production.
