In Estonia, the trail begins in the old western taiga of the Väike-Palkna landscape protection area. The trail continues along smaller and larger roads in the cultural landscape of the Haanja Upland, where you can see forest-covered domes everywhere. Larger masses of forests are in the villages of Saluora, Mahtja and Haanja. Most of these forests are western taigas growing on fertile soil, but there are also single fragments of deciduous forest.
