Section 91. Aizpute – Snēpele.

One of the oldest cities in Latvia. The authentic wood architecture of Aizpute from the 19th century is a European cultural heritage. Ruins of a castle of the Livonian Order, a stone bridge over the Tebra river, water mills, estates.

The dairy plant produces milk, cream, kefir, cottage cheese, yoghurt and fresh unripe cheese. Available in local shops and elsewhere in Latvia.

Walking trail, bicycle path network, lake footbridge with the observation tower over the lake, beautiful landscapes with wooden sculptures, a boulder grotto.

The main values of the pub building are the facade, authentic semi-circular arched windows and doors, and two iron-forged wind indicators from 1667. The mill was built in 1840.

The manor house was built around 1800 and belonged to Kurzeme barons von Manteuffels.

The castle can only be visited when accompanied by a museum employee, if an excursion has been booked at the Kazdanga Museum (Pils gatve 4, +37128616717, solvita.janvare@kultura.dkn.lv).

Snēpele manor was built in the 19th century and was the property of baron von Hahn family. Evidence of history can be seen in the manor, as well as the weavers' workshop “Vēveri” and memorial room of the painter Indriķis Zeberiņš (painter, graphic artist, book illustrator and cartoonist).

Important to know: At the Kazdanga Museum, you can book a tour of the interior of Kazdanga Castle, which can only be viewed with the guidance of a museum employee.
