Lake Lielais Baltezers

A relict of the Baltic Ice Age, all its isles are part of a nature reserve. The neighbourhood has developed into an area of exclusive mansions.

Riga Water Supply Museum

Although the area is said to have been established in 1988, it has been populated since the mid-17th century.

Lake Mazais Baltezers

Since 1904, the lake serves as the source of Riga’s drinking water supply.

Alderi

The name of the village comes from a brewery that used to operate here. In early 20th century, rafters who used to transport timber via the Gauja-Daugava canal began settling here.

Utaiņkalns

A dune with a great view.

Gauja-Baltezers Canal

A fragment of the Gauja-Daugava waterway, built in 1903 to transport timber between Gauja and Vecmīlgrāvis.

Garkalne Lutheran Church

Built in 1848.

Iļķene ferry crossing

Operated until 1940s. Named after the estate of David Hilchen, the secretary of King of Poland.

Historic Road

Since 13th century a road passed through here, which went on to become the most important postal route of Vidzeme, connecting Riga with Tartu and St. Petersburg.

Vangaži

First mentioned in the 17th century. After World War II, rich sand and gravel deposits were discovered and a reinforced concrete factory and a workers’ village were established here.
