The Horn collection in Vaide villageThe collection of antlers collected by Edgars Hausmanis can be seen at Vaide “Purvziedi”. Now there are approximately 550 antlers in this collection, of which about 350 antlers of elks. Except a couple of antlers of roe`s, the items of the collection are not hunting trophies, they were found during the forester's and later the nature protection inspector's survey rounds in the forest. The Pine Nature TrailThe trail (1.2 km) leads through a dunes in forest to the sea. It is especially beautiful in the spring and at the beginning of summer when the pine trees bloom: the pines with low set, prostrate branches form unusual flowering carpets. You can see the “Mother of pines” which could possibly be one of the oldest coastal pines deeply covered in sand. According to biologists, it could be around 200-300 years old. |

Cape KolkaCape Kolka is the Northernmost point of the Kurzeme (Courland) peninsula. Its ancient name Domesnes was first mentioned on the Mervalla Rune Stone in Sweden around 1040. The shelf of Cape Kolka stretches into the sea for 6 km and it is bathed by the sea at a depth of 0,5-3 km. The waves of the Baltic Sea and the Gulf of Riga meet on its shelf. During storms waves can reach a height of 7 m. This place is also known as a unique bird watching site, for the cape is crossed by the Baltic Sea – the White Sea birds’ migration route. |
