From Kavastu to Varnja, the trail goes through scattered villages and agricultural landscape, all drained from Lake Peipus lowland wet forests and wetlands of Emajõgi River delta. The forest types surrounding the arable land from both sides are mainly paludifying and swamp forests, growing on wet and fertile soils as well as bog pine forests and forests in transitional mires. Due to the low land and nutrients, brought in by River Emajõgi, the peatlands between the trail and Lake Peipus are mainly fens and quagmires, even with peat layer more than 4-5 meters deep.
